SAN FRANCISCO – New head coach Darlene Klemens picked up the first win of her City College of San Francisco career thanks to the Rams' 3-2 victory over visiting Columbia College on Friday at the Wellness Center Gym.
After dropping the first two sets against the Claim Jumpers, CCSF rallied to win the final three and take the marathon match by scores of 18-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-11.
Mary Shunashi Hernandez-Elorza led the charge for the Rams as she totaled 17 kills, 24 digs, and 3 aces. Maliah Trinidad posted 24 digs as well while Maihli Hunkin had 25 assists, 16 digs, and 3 aces. Dayana Gonzalez also contributed to the win with 9 kills and 15 digs.
The Rams couldn't keep the momentum going and suffered a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-13) loss to Mendocino College to close out the day's action at their home tri event.
Gonzalez had a team-best 8 kills while Hernandez-Elorza led with 15 digs. Hunkin totaled 11 assists and Cyenna Amina had 6 blocks.
The Rams, now 1-4 overall, are back in action on Wednesday (Sep. 4) when they host College of the Siskiyous in a 5 p.m. non-conference match
