Rams capture Coast Conference championship; host Fresno City in NorCal Playoffs

SAN FRANCISCO – City College of San Francisco closed out the regular season with an 8-1 win over visiting Cañada College on Friday. With the victory, the Rams secured a perfect 9-0 record in conference play to capture a Coast Conference championship.

The Rams will now focus their attention on the postseason, including the upcoming Northern California Regional Team Championships. CCSF has received the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Fresno City College in an opening-round match on Tuesday (Apr. 9) at 1 p.m. | PLAYOFFS BRACKET

Fresno City closed out its regular season with a 6-3 overall record. On March 16, San Francisco defeated Fresno City 5-4 in Fresno. The winner will advance to the semifinals to take on either No. 1 American River College or No. 8 West Valley College. Three wins are needed to advance to the 3C2A State Championships.

Also coming up for CCSF is the Coast Conference singles and doubles championships. The tourney will be held on April 11-13 at Chabot College.

According to CCSF head coach Mary Graber, the Rams' Ariel Xu will likely be the No. 1 seed in singles competition at the Coast Conference Championships and could also be seeded No. 1 for the state tournament as well.

Graber is proud of Xu, especially considering her journey to CCSF.

"Ariel has been a pillar of strength and inspiration for the 2024 team," said Graber. "Her talent, humility, and personal journey to San Francisco is truly remarkable.

"On Ariel's 18th birthday, her parents gave her a one-way ticket to San Francisco from her hometown in China. Traveling to San Francisco with two suitcases and one tennis racket, Ariel's father knew one person who lived in America. And this family friend, fortunate for CCSF Tennis, lived just a few miles from City College. The CCSF Tennis team, and Ariel's pursuit of an Individual state championship title, will all play out in the month of April!"
