Rams swim to seventh place at Coast Conference Championships

FREMONT – Led by an impressive effort by sophomore Maggie Beatty, City College of San Francisco totaled 265 points to finish in seventh place out of 13 teams at the 2023 Coast Conference Swimming & Diving Championships. The three-day event hosted by Ohlone College closed out the season for the Rams.

CCSF nearly took sixth by ending just eight points back of De Anza College with 273 points. The Rams had nine swimmers qualify for the Coast Conference Championship finals (championship or consolation final), including: Beatty, Rachel Berning, Veronique Borges, Cristina Bracamontes, Sarah Clayson, Olivia Gow-Smith, Emma McDonald, Linda O'Connor, and Helen Tang.

Beatty had a busy weekend as she placed third in 100-yard breaststroke, seventh in the 200 breaststroke, and 12th in the 50 freestyle. She was also a valuable member of four relay teams, pacing the 400 medley relay (4th place), 200 medley relay (7th), 800 freestyle relay (5th), and 400 freestyle relay (3rd).

Borges put together a top individual finish by taking third place in the 200 butterfly.

CCSF head coach Phong Pham was impressed by his team's progress throughout the season.

"Overall, all team members competing at the meet improved on technique and time on most events and competed strong from day 1 until the last relay event," said Pham. "I am proud of the courage of the 2023 team for coming out for the team, committing to the team, and finishing what they started."
