LAKE TAHOE – The City College of San Francisco women's soccer team is finally headed back to the state championships thanks to its 3-1 win at No. 1-seeded Lake Tahoe Community College in Round 4 of the Northern California Regional Playoffs on Saturday.
Sydney Grundland Lanuza scored twice for the Rams, including the game-winner in the 68th minute that broke a 1-1 tie. Lanuza secured the Rams' victory with her second goal in the 75th minute. Anahi Gomez scored earlier in the 53rd minute to get CCSF on the board.
Bailey Perales totaled 5 saves in goal for the Rams. She allowed just her fourth goal over the past 16 matches.
The Rams, seeded No. 4 for the 2024 NorCal tourney, had reached the regional finals the past two seasons only to come up a win shy of reaching the state tournament. CCSF returns to the state championships for the first time since 2013 and will make its third appearance in program history (2011, 2013).
Joining the Rams at the state tournament from the North will be Folsom Lake College. The No. 2-seeded Falcons defeated No. 3 Sierra College 2-1 in its regional final.
From Southern California, top-seeded Cypress College beat No. 6 Chaffey College 3-1 and No. 3 Saddleback College knocked off No. 2 Pasadena City College 3-0 to earn trips to the State Final Four.
The 3C2A State Championships are set for Dec. 6 & 8 at American River College in Sacramento. CCSF (17-2-3) will open against Cypress (20-1-3) on Friday with Folsom Lake (21-1-2) taking on Saddleback (18-2-3) in the semifinals. The winners will meet on Sunday in the state championship final.
