No. 14 Rams keep hold of first place with 2-0 win over Las Positas

SAN FRANCISCO – A pair of first half goals would prove to be all No. 14 nationally-ranked City College of San Francisco would need to defeat visiting Las Positas College 2-0 on Friday.

With the win, the Rams kept pace on top of the Coast Conference North Division standings at 6-2-1. They are in a battle with Evergreen Valley College at 5-2-2 for the division title with just three games remaining. CCSF is unbeaten in six of its last seven games (5-1-1) and improved to 11-3-1 overall.

On Friday, Oliver Cortes Guillen scored in the 20th minute off the assist from Sergio Laguna and Alejandro Palos to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. And in the 35th minute, Georgi Stoyanov knocked in his team-leading 11th goal of the season to close out CCSF's scoring.  Laguna picked up his second assist of the contest.

The Rams' defense and goalkeeper Fernando Escobedo continued their stellar play in the second half to post the shutout, CCSF's seventh of the season. Escobedo was credited with two saves.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday (Nov. 1) when they play at Cañada College in a 4 p.m. Coast Conference North Division game.
