The City College of San Francisco men' soccer team defeat the Cabrillo College Seahawks 2-1 yesterday at CCSF.
The Rams win streak is now at six games and hold a sterling 9-0-2 overall record (4-0-1 Coast-North) and are tied for first place in the conference with Las Positas College.
The Rams scored first in the match when sophomore midfielder Mark Estevez scored an unassisted goal at the 28th minute.
The Rams held the 1-0 lead all the way up to the 78th minute. Cabrillo (6-4-1 overall, 2-2 Coast North) scored on a corner set play when Jose Magana found Walmer Martinez for the game-tying goal.
"It's those little moments when you have a mental break when teams capitalize – and it catches up to you. But I think we responded well from it," Assistant Coach Jesus Hernandez said.
The Rams responded at the 83rd minute when freshman forward Alejandro Sorto scored on an assisted goal by fellow freshman forward Alejandro Perez. Sorto's goal was his sixth of the year, and is now riding a four-game scoring streak.
After the Rams scored the go-ahead goal, the focus was to hold off Cabrillo's offense for the remaining seven minutes.
"Once we got that second goal, we had to bunker down. We took out one of our forwards and took care of our defensive responsibilities," Hernandez said. "It's not always a pretty game. Sometimes you just have to get through the games, but to come out with a win like yesterday shows that this team has a lot of character. It was a huge win."
The Rams will look to remain undefeated on the year when they travel to Evergreen Valley College on October 21 for a 6:30 p.m. game.
