Top-seeded CCSF routs Butte, Rams one win from return trip to state

SAN FRANCISCO – Coast Conference North Division Co-Player of the Year Mezziah Oakman posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds to help lead No. 1-seeded City College of San Francisco to a 99-69 victory over No. 17 Butte College on Saturday night in a second-round game of the Northern California Regionals Playoffs.

The Rams, who've won 20 of their last 21 games, are surging at the right time and need just one more victory to return to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships for the seventh straight season and defend their 2022 state title.  

CCSF will host No. 8 Columbia College in one of four Northern California Regional Finals scheduled for Saturday, March 4. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Brad Duggan Court.

Ticket prices for the CCCAA postseason event are $12 for general admission and $8 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years old. Tickets can be purchased online in advance at https://ccsfathletics.com/tickets/index.

In the other regional final matchups, No. 2 San Jose City hosts No. 7 Chabot, No. 13 Las Positas is at No. 5 West Valley, and No. 6 Redwoods travels to No. 3 Sequoias with the winners all advancing to the State Championships on March 9-12 at West Hills College Lemoore in Lemoore.

On Saturday, the Rams got solid contributions from throughout the lineup. CJ Hardy totaled 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. Te'Jon Sawyer scored 14 points, Jamir Thomas chipped in with 13 points, and EJ Neal added 12 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds.

Columbia was a 65-54 winner at home against No. 9 Contra Costa in its second-round contest. The Claim Jumpers bring a 22-7 overall record to San Francisco and closed out the regular season tied for second in the Central Valley Conference with a 9-5 mark.

Next Saturday's contest marks the first meeting of the season between the Rams and Claim Jumpers.
