SAN FRANCISCO – The 2024 City College of San Francisco season ended on a positive note with the Rams hanging on for a 28-24 win over visiting Diablo Valley College at George M. Rush Stadium on Saturday.
CCSF and interim head coach Eduardo Yagües Nuño closed out the scheduled with a 3-7 overall record while going 3-2 to finish a respectable third-place in the final standings of the powerhouse Bay 6 League.
The DVC offense actually outgained San Francisco 404 yards to 286. But the Rams made the most of their scoring opportunities while the defense allowed just a pair of touchdowns and held the Vikings to 3 field goals.
San Francisco quarterback Christian Banks had an efficient game passing. He was 6 for 8 in the contest for 122 yards with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions with both those TD passes going to Bryson Waterman. His 9-yard touchdown reception from Banks got the Rams on the board in the first quarter while his big 82-yard TD midway through the third gave CCSF a 28-19 lead.
For Waterman, the 2 TDs in today's game gave him 5 over the past two weeks.
DVC (5-5, 2-3 Bay 6) scored the final 10 points of the contest, getting a field goal and safety in the fourth quarter. But the Rams forced a punt on the Vikings' final drive and CCSF was able to run out the clock with a 10-play drive that lasted nearly the final five minutes of the contest.
The Rams outran the Vikings, collecting 164 yards on the ground. Richard Washington led CCSF with 18 carries for 98 yards and a touchdown while Banks totaled 69 yards on 13 attempts with a rushing TD as well.
Kalique Cheeves and Sonny Vitale led the CCSF defense with 10 tackles each. Jalen Camp put together another solid game with 5 tackles, 1 sack, and interception. Vitale and Javonnie Haymon also had sacks.
Saturday's game also marked the return of former long-time Rams head coach Jimmy Collins. He made his first trip back to CCSF since taking over the DVC football program after last season.
