SAN FRANCISCO – City College of San Francisco is 1-0 in the Bay League standings thanks to its 31-0 rout of visiting San Joaquin Delta College on Saturday at George M. Rush Stadium.
After starting the season with a rough 0-5 record, the Rams appear to be on the right track as the offense has focused on the run. After rushing for 336 yards in last week's 43-35 loss at Sierra, CCSF pounded the ball on the ground once again to a season-high 391 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns.
The Rams got off to slow start against Delta, holding a 3-0 lead after the first quarter thanks to a 39-yard field goal from Jason Peres.
CCSF got some momentum going in the second thanks to a 13-yard touchdown run by Nathan Iskander at the 11:03 mark to give the Rams a 10-0 advantage. Later in the second, quarterback Christian Banks led San Francisco on a 10-play, 80-yard drive that he closed out with a 7-yard TD pass to Cameron Johnson.
The Rams took a 17-0 lead into the break and continued the solid play in the second half.
The CCSF defense did its part, intercepting a pair of passes in the second half while the Rams got a 13-yard touchdown run from Richard Washington in the third quarter and a 21-yard TD on the ground by Luis Contreras to close out the scoring late in the fourth.
10 different Rams carried the ball, led by Daytuawn Pearson (11 carries, 96 yards) and Banks (10 carries, 96 yards).
The CCSF defense held Delta to 206 yards of total offense, including just 24 yards rushing. San Francisco was able to pressure Mustangs quarterback Ubedei Mcgautha as he was taken down four times for sacks.
Jayvonnie Haymon led with 2 sacks with Derek Reagans and Brayden Ellis also earning sacks. Isaiah Keishk and Lai Banks totaled 6 tackles to lead the Rams. Banks and Chikala Warden both had interceptions.
Saturday's victory marked the first for CCSF interim head coach Eduardo Yagües Nuño as the Rams improved to 1-5. San Francisco is back in action on Friday (Oct. 25) when it travels to Laney College for a 7 p.m. Bay League game.
