Rams secure series victory with 5-1 win over De Anza

SAN FRANCISCO – David Howard struck out 7 batters and allowed 1 run in a complete-game effort to help lead City College of San Francisco to a 5-1 win over visiting De Anza College on Saturday in the finale of a three-game Coast Conference series.

The Rams took 2 out of the 3 games from De Anza for the series victory. CCSF needed 10 innings to beat De Anza 7-6 in the opener on Tuesday before suffering a 12-6 loss to the Mountain Lions in Cupertino on Thursday.

Howard tossed his second complete game of the season on Saturday. He scattered 9 hits while stranding 6 runners on base.

At the plate, Miguel Esquviez went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI to lead the Rams' offense. He smacked RBI-singles in the first and fifth innings.

Donovan Williams (2 for 4, 2 runs) and Jackson Wood (2 for 5, 1 run, 1 RBI) both had 2 hits each.

In Thursday's loss, Williams drove in 2 runs and walked 3 times to lead CCSF in the batter's box. Justin Verna (2 for 5, 1 run, 1 RBI) added a pair of hits.

On Tuesday, the Rams rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie up the game and got the walk-off winner from Williams with his RBI-single that drove in Junior Madera.

Howard (2 for 3, 2 RBI) contributed to the win on offense by bringing home a pair of runs with a single and triple.

San Francisco improved to 8-12 overall after the weekend and is 2-1 in Coast Conference play. The Rams return to action on Tuesday (Mar. 19) when they begin another three-game series at College of San Mateo at 2:30 p.m.

Game 2 is set for 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at Mission College, with the finale on Saturday back at CSM at 1 p.m.
