SAN FRANCISCO – Pitching in his final home game in a City College of San Francisco uniform, sophomore pitcher Owen Gallegos came through with one of his best outings of the season.

Gallegos tossed seven strong innings, allowing just one run and six hits in helping lead the Rams to a 5-4 victory over College of San Mateo in a game played at San Francisco State University on Thursday.

Gallegos tied a season-high with eight strikeouts and walked none. He left the game with CCSF holding a narrow 3-1 lead.

CCSF jumped out ahead first with a run in the bottom of the third inning. The Rams opened the frame with three consecutive singles, with Ryan Anderson driving in Kevin Mueller with a run.

San Mateo evened up the score with a lone run in the top of the sixth. Gallegos struck out the first two batters but ran into trouble by allowing a single, double, and a hit batter to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed a run to come in but Gallegos was able to escape with no further damage by inducing an inning-ending groundout.

The Rams rallied ahead for good by scoring twice in the sixth. Mueller smacked an RBI-double to drive in Jacob Olivia and Jerin Po'oma'a-Adaro walked with the bases loaded to force in Eli Villaobos with a run.

CCSF extended the lead to 5-1 in the eighth thanks to a two-run triple by Angel Perez which proved to be crucial to the victory.

CSM rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth and had the game-tying run on second base with two outs. But David Howard was able to pitch out of the jam to earn the save.

With the win, Gallegos evened up his overall record at 6-6.

CCSF totaled 11 hits at the plate, led by a 3 for 4 effort by Mueller. Perez went 2 for 5 with a pair of RBI while Anderson also came through with two hits (2 for 4) and an RBI.

The Rams improved to 11-23 overall and 4-13 in Coast Conference play. They are back in action on Saturday (Apr. 22) when the Rams travel to Skyline College for a conference game.
