Wood smashes two home runs in Rams’ loss at Chabot

HAYWARD – Jackson Wood smacked a pair of home runs, including a grand slam in the top of the eighth inning, but it wasn't enough as City College of San Francisco dropped a 9-5 Coast Conference North Division game at Chabot College on Tuesday.

Wood did all he could to keep the Rams in the game. His solo shot in the second gave the Rams a brief 1-0 lead. Chabot went on to score runs over the next six innings to take a commanding 8-1 advantage.

But in the eighth, CCSF sent nine batters to the plate and collected five of its 11 hits in the ball game. A single, hit batter, and walk loaded up the bases for Wood and he came through to score them all with a grand slam.

The Rams followed with three more hits, but Tres Sarmiento was thrown out at the plate trying to score to end the inning.

Sarmiento (3 for 4) had a good game offensively, collecting three singles. Wood ended his impressive day going 2 for 4, scoring twice while driving in five runs.

Isaiah Ramos took the loss for CCSF. He allowed five runs (three earned) and seven hits over four innings.

The Rams fell to 3-17 overall and 0-7 in the Coast Conference North Division. They'll look to snap a 10-game losing streak on Thursday (Mar. 24) when they host Chabot in a 12 p.m. game at Fairmont Field in Pacifica.
