Rams open Coast Conference play with loss to West Valley

APTOS – The 2022 Coast Conference schedule got off to a rough start for the City College of San Francisco baseball team.

The Rams traveled to Aptos to take on West Valley College to begin a two-game Coast Conference North Division series and came home with a 17-1 loss. Game 2 is set for 2 p.m. on Thursday (Mar. 10) and will be played at Mission College in Santa Clara.

West Valley jumped on the Rams pitching early by scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and four more in the second to take a commanding 6-1 lead.

CCSF scored its lone run in the top of the second. Jackson Wood doubled to lead off the frame and came in to score on a two-out triple by Tres Sarmiento.

The Rams totaled eight hits in the contest, getting two each from Wood (2-for-3, run) and Cruz Costa (2-for-3, walk), but stranded eight runners on base.

CCSF fell to 3-11 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
