Rams go 2-0 in the 10th Cougar Classic Tournament

Alameda, CA- This past weekend the San Francisco City College Rams played two matches in the 10thCougar Classic Tournament in Alameda, California against the Mendocino College Eagles and the West Hills College Coalinga Falcons. 

Scores of the first match against the Mendocino College Eagles were 25-15, 13-25, 18-25 and 19-25.

San Francisco City College (2-0) had a slow start in the first set, losing 25-15 due to lack of communication and connections amongst each other. However, in the second set, the Rams quickly settled in and were able to play with a determined/focused mindset, fluidity of the ball, and consistent court communication to successfully defeat Mendocino College for the remainder of the sets. Game changers for the Rams were Setter/Outside Hitters Brittania Chan with a whopping 16 kills, hitting a .391 kill percentage, 11 digs and 8 assists, and Zaire Best with 13 kills, hitting an above average .733 kill percentage, 8 digs and 30 assists. Even with a slow start, the Mendocino College Eagles had no match for the incomparable talent and solid chemistry from the San Francisco City College Rams.

Scores of the second match against the West Hills Coalinga Falcons were 20-25, 25-23, 25-17 and 25-10.

In their last match of the day, San Francisco City College (2-0) were able to end their 10thCougar classic Tournament with an additional satisfying win against the West Hills Coalinga Falcons. To begin the game, with yet another rough start by the Rams, they were crushed in the first set, as they were unable to defend and block the big hitters of the Falcons. Remarkably and with no surprise, as they did in their first match against Mendocino College, the Rams were able to get in the groove of things and win a closely matched second set. For the remainder of the sets, the Rams went above and beyond and played exceptionally – ending their match with a team total of 29 kills and 39 digs. Players of recognition against the Falcons are Setter/Outside Hitter Brittania Chan with a spectacular 12 kills, hitting a .500 kill percentage, 9 digs and 4 assists and Middle Blocker Mikaylah Paz with 4 kills, hitting a .333 kill percentage, and Libero Viviana Garcia with 14 digs.
