Rams send four to 3C2A State Championships; Xu, Ling advance to Round 3

Following last week's Coast Conference Championships, City College of San Francisco has qualified a pair of individuals and two doubles teams for the upcoming 3C2A State Championships. The tourney gets underway on Thursday (Apr. 25) with matches played in Ventura and Ojai.

Making the trip to Southern California with CCSF head coach Mary Graber are singles qualifiers Ariel Xu and Christina Ling. The sophomore pair will also compete as a doubles team together as well as the duo of freshmen Pam Dineva and Michelle Lee.

After an opening-round bye, Xu and Ling both won their second-round singles matches on Thursday. Xu was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Anya Villanueva of San Diego City College while Ling defeated Halie Gregory of Modesto Junior College by scores of 6-0, 6-2.

Xu is set to take on Yesugen Ganbaatar of Santa Monica College on Thursday in a third-round match while Ling is scheduled to face Janine Kremling of Riverside City College.

In doubles, the duo of Xu and Ling received a bye to start the tourney and opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Josie Miranda and Justine Koo from Fullerton College. They will next face the team of Rhea Gagnepain and Leanne Pascua from Orange Coast College in Round 3 on Friday.

Dineva and Lee triumphed in their opening-round doubles match on Thursday, beating Anh Nguyen and Sage Youchak in a close tie-breaker match by scores of 7-5, 6-7, 10-8. But their season came to a close later in the afternoon following a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Estrella Segura and Sydney Tamondong from College of the Canyons.
