SAN FRANCISCO - A tough 2022 regular season came to a close for City College of San Francisco with a 31-13 National Bay 6 League loss to visiting College of San Mateo on Saturday at George M. Rush Stadium.

The Rams entered the contest tied atop the league standings at 3-1 with San Mateo and Laney and needed a win to claim at least a share of the Bay 6 title. But CSM (9-1, 4-1 Bay 6) set the tone early, scoring the game's first 24 points and carried a 24-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

CCSF finally came alive late. Quarterback Jeremy Stephens closed out a seven-play, 73-yard drive with a 24-yard touchdown run to get San Francisco on the board. The Rams couldn't convert the two-point PAT and was down 24-6 at the 12:54 mark.

The Rams' defense came up big on the Bulldogs' ensuing drive. With CSM running down the clock, Matthew Eskridge II broke through on a blitz to sack and strip the ball from quarterback Ritchie Watts. He came up with the recovery, giving CCSF the ball back on the San Mateo 31-yard line.

Stephens wasted little time in connecting with Daelin DeGraffenreid on the Rams' first play for a 31-yard TD reception. With momentum back on the Rams' side, they trailed 24-13 with 11:35 to play.

But San Francisco would get no closer. The Rams were forced to punt on their next two drives and turned the ball over on downs on their final possession.

CCSF was held to a season-low 156 yards of offense. Stephens was limited to 68 yards passing and led the Rams with 47 yards rushing. On defense, Tyler Lepolo had a team-high 10 tackles.

The Rams wrapped up the regular season with a 6-4 overall record and 3-2 mark in Bay 6 League play. CCSF will look to earn a postseason bowl game bid, with the announcement coming next weekend.
