Derek Lau enters his 9th season as head coach and 15th year season overall at CCSF. Lau was named the 2016 CCCAA North Coach of the Year and has been named the Coast Conference Coach of the Year, 3 times. In his 4 full years at the helm, the Rams have won 3 Coast North Championships and have appearances in the Elite Eight and Final Four of the state tournament. In the 10 years as an assistant, he helped guide the Rams to seven Coast Conference Championships and ten consecutive playoff appearances.

Coach Lau is dedicated to helping student athletes achieve success on and off the court. His focus is to making sure his student athletes learn to to “work”, to prepare them for their future basketball endeavors and life experiences.

Lau transferred from CCSF to Long Beach State University where he earned a BA in criminology and continued on to earn a MA in Health and Physical Education and Recreation from St. Mary’s College in Moraga. He resides in San Francisco, California with his wife Remi, sons Lucas and Landry, and daughter Logan.
