No. 1 Rams winning streak comes to an end with 35-14 loss at Butte

OROVILLE – It's time to build a new streak.

For the first time since late in the 2019 season, City College of San Francisco suffered a loss, tonight falling at Butte College by a final score of 35-14. The defeat snapped CCSF's 16-game winning streak.

The Rams fell behind 9-0 early and trailed 26-7 at halftime after Butte connected for a 40-yard touchdown pass on the final play of the second quarter.

Defensive pressure by Butte and turnovers by CCSF decided the contest. Butte totaled eight sacks, had 11 tackles for loss, intercepted three passes, and recovered a pair of Ram fumbles.

CCSF couldn't get much going offensively. Matt Jenner tossed a seven-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Espero at the 3:30 mark in the first to make it a 9-7 game.

But Butte (2-1) scored the next 26 points of the contest until the Rams broke the string in the fourth quarter. Aaron Rieskamp, CCSF's third quarterback of the game, threw an 18-yard TD to Azari Brown with 9:19 to play to close out the scoring for both teams.

Tyler Lepolo led the Rams on defense with nine tackles, Isiah Revis had eight tackles, while Gabriel Iniguez posted six tackles, the Rams' lone sack, and forced and recovered a fumble.

CCSF, now 2-1, will look to get back on track next Saturday (Sep. 24) when the Rams host Fresno City College in a 2 p.m. game at George M. Rush Field.
