It was a big weekend to honor City College of San Francisco athletics, especially current women's athletic director Jamie Hayes.

Prior to the start of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships that saw the Rams men's basketball team capture a state title, Hayes had her moment as she was inducted into the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA) Hall of Fame at its annual Champions Banquet on Wednesday night in Visalia.

The event came two days before former CCSF football head coach George Rush was inducted into the California Community College Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA) Hall of Fame and current head coach Jimmy Collins was honored as the State Coach of the Year.

The enshrinement for Hayes comes after serving as head coach of the Rams women's basketball team for 12 seasons. Hayes is also a member of the San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame for her outstanding Washington High School career as a player in basketball and softball.

Below is from the CCCWBCA Hall of Fame program:

Hayes coached 18 seasons at City College of San Francisco, 12 as head coach (2002- 14) and six as assistant coach (1996-2002). During her 12 years at the helm, her teams won seven Coast Conference championships, advanced to the postseason 12 times, made the Elite 8 five times, the Final Four twice, and was State Runner-up once (2011).

Her coaching win-loss record stands at 292-86, a 772 clip. But these aren't the only reasons she is being inducted into the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Hayes was a tireless worker who meticulously prepared her teams for their games and demanded they play together. During her 12 seasons, she was totally dedicated to her student-athletes and the program. She was known as a disciplinarian on the court who demanded a lot from her players – she expected them to be ready to play hard, to respond to coaching and to represent themselves, their families, their teams, and their college well.

She also demanded her players go to class, do their academic work, and prepare to transfer. Her positive impact on their lives continues to this day.

And her players responded well on the court too, as 16 of them were named to the All-State team. She also had four All-State Tournament players and one State Player of the Year (North). She was voted State Coach of the Year (North) by her coaching peers twice – 2005-06 and 2008-09.

A starting guard for the Rams from 1994- 96, Hayes earned her associate degree at CCSF in 1996 and transferred to San Francisco State University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in in kinesiology in 1998. She then enrolled at Saint Mary's College in Moraga and earned her master's degree in health, physical education, and recreation in 2001.

Hayes served on the CCCWBCA Executive Board and on both the Seeding and All- State Selection committees and was a respected and strong voice within the coaches association. She stepped down from coaching in 2014 but continues at CCSF as the women's athletic director and a kinesiology professor.
