The no.5 seed CCSF Rams (22-3 overall) travels to no.4 Gavilan Rams (22-6 overall) this Saturday for the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association volleyball playoffs.

A win on Saturday night would vault the Rams into the CCCAA State Championship round. The last time CCSF sent a volleyball team to the state championship round was 1998, nearly 20 years ago.

The Rams are coming off an impressive 3-0 win over Shasta College on Tuesday night. Although the first set saw CCSF fall behind 14-20, the Rams fought all the way back to secure the set 26-24. The Rams never looked back from that point on. They won the second set 25-12 and the third set 25-19.

Gavilan is also coming off a 3-0 first-round playoff win. They beat Hartnell College in successive sets with scores of 25-23, 25-21, and 31-29. Madison Hartman led the offensive attack with 19 kills, while Valerie Rodgers and Claire Gerard led the team in digs with 14 and 12, respectively.

This will not be the first time for these two teams to meet. CCSF and Gavilan split the regular-season series 1-1. In the first matchup at the Delta College Classic on September 9, Gavilan beat CCSF 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 27-25). But CCSF got revenge a week later on September 16 at the CCSF Golden Gate Classic when they beat Gavilan 3-2 (24-26, 25-22, 25-12, 19-25, 19-17).

Saturday's match figures to be a be a battle between CCSF's high-scoring, outside hitters and Gavilan's backcourt defenders. CCSF's one-two punch of freshman Jennifer Quarters-Styles and sophomore Kijana Best rank no.1 and no.2 in the state in kills, respectively. They'll be facing a Gavilan squad that ranked no.17 in the state in digs with 1521.
