Rams finish fourth at Coast Conference Championships; Tran wins 100, 200 breaststroke

HAYWARD – Led by a record-breaking weekend by freshman Sophia Tran, City College of San Francisco totaled 427.5 points to finish in fourth place out of 13 teams at the 2024 Coast Conference Championships. The three-day event wrapped up on Saturday at Chabot College.

The Rams greatly improved on last year's showing of seventh place at the 2023 conference championships.

Tran continued her impressive first season in the pool for CCSF, breaking two school records on her way to a pair of gold medals.

Tran had to come from behind take first place in the 100-yard breaststroke. Her time of 1:08.09 broke a 35-year-old record, set in 1989. The swim by Tran was also selected the female "Performance of the Meet" by conference coaches.

She also set a new school record in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:28.72 for another first-place finish.

Tran also was a member of two medal-earning relay teams. The 400-yard freestyle relay squad of Lian Mar, Serawit Ezra, Sarah Tanabe, and Tran swam 3:52.97 for second place while the 400-yard medley relay of Ezra, Tran, Mar, and Tanabe was third at 4:16.33.

In other relay events, CCSF finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley, and 800-yard freestyle.

Ezra, Mar, and Remy Dizon all earned individual medals. Ezra was second in the 400-yard IM, Mar took second in the 100-yard butterfly, and Dizon finished third in the 100-yard backstroke.

Up next for the Rams is the 3C2A State Championships on May 2-4 at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa.
