SF Examiner Wrap up - Men' and Women's Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Water Polo

Both of the City College of San Francisco soccer teams clinched conference titles on Tuesday.

The men did it by beating West Valley, 3-1. Jonathan Hernandez, Tobi Oladapo and Gian Marco Zancarnaro each scored a goal.

“This conference championship is special because it’s happening to a good group of kids. They have been great and they worked hard. They are peaking at the right time,” head coach Adam Lucarelli said in a statement.

The women’s team beat Skyline, 10-0.The victory delivered the Rams their seventh-straight Coast-North Conference title.

All-American Jesse Bareilles netted four goals, Danielle Nicotera added three, Olivia DelRossoscored twice and Mia Toracca rounded out the attack.

“This [championship] means a lot to our players,” first-year head coach Jeff Wilson said. “Gabe Saucedo [former head women’s soccer coach] did such a great job of creating an expectation to win, and coming in that was one of the things I wanted to establish. It’s great to see how much joy it brings to the team.”

The CCSF women’s volleyball team won their last two matches, each one in straight sets, 3-0.

The victories ensured a playoff berth for the Rams, who were led by Kijana Best with 31 kills for the week.

The first season of water polo at CCSF wrapped up on Nov. 4 with a 10-6 loss to San Mateo.

The CCSF men’s basketball team beat Mt. San Antonio, 73-71, on Sunday. Armani Collins and Zachary Copeland shared tournament co-MVP honors.

The women’s team beat De Anza, 88-57, with Gabrielle Vigil and Destiny Kelly leading the way with a combined 50 points. Nahrie Pierce contributed a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
