The regular season is just around the corner for the six-time defending Coast-North Conference Champion Women’s Soccer Team. But after five pre-season games to date, the Rams appear to be in mid-season form.

The Rams are off to an impressive start and hold a record of 3-1-1. The first three games of the season ended in victories against Skyline College, Consumnes River College, and Solano College. The most eye-opening win came against the Skyline Trojans. In that match, the Rams scored a mind-boggling nine goals, five of which came off the talented foot of Sophomore All-American forward Jesse Bareilles -- the Rams defeated Skyline 9-0. At last weekend’s Las Positas Showcase, the Rams’ matches against Ventura College and Lassen College ended in a 0-1 loss and a 1-1 tie, respectively.

With the pre-season almost in the rear-view mirror for the Rams, first-year Head Coach Jeff Wilson knows that there’s still more work to be done in preparation for the regular-season gauntlet.

"Thus far I have been impressed by what I have seen and know that this group is up for the challenges that lie ahead.  The first five games were all about giving the team and coaching staff an opportunity to take a look at what we can do well and also what we can improve upon," Wilson said. "Overall, we are in a good place and with no games this week we were able to pinpoint and work on some things that will only help us moving forward."

The Rams are led by an impressive group of playoff-tested sophomores in Bareilles, forward Sydney Alvarado, midfielder Daniela Gutierrez, goalkeeper Jocelyn Amable, and defenders Olivia DelRosso, Jazzlene Herrera, and Rebecca Killmartin – all of whom are starters. In particular, Bareilles is off to a blistering start with a stat line of nine goals, two assists, and 20 total points. Coach Wilson knows that their experience will be the key to the Rams capturing their seventh consecutive conference title and, possibly, a trip to the State Finals.

"I couldn't have asked for a better group of sophomores to lead the way. Not only are they talented players but they are great leaders. Without them our transition period would have been much tougher, but thankfully they have embraced their roles and have really bought into our goals of being the best representatives of CCSF in all that we do," Wilson said.

The freshman group of forwards Jocelyn Alonso, Gabriella Beemsterboer, Christy Jensen, and Mia Toracca; defenders Zoe Elloway, Shannon Garcia, and Chelsea Herrera; and midfielders Danielle Nicotera and Angelica Gonzalez have kept up with the pace set by their sophomore teammates. Nicotera is the third-leading point scorer (four points) for the Rams with one goal and two assists.

Next Tuesday the Rams will travel to Evergreen Valley College for a 4 p.m. match.
