The City College of San Francisco women's basketball team defeated San Jose City College Jaguars (1-2 Coast-North/10-9 Overall) 68-57 last night at CCSF.

The win improves the Rams' overall record to 15-3 and are tied with Skyline College for first place in the conference with a 2-0 record.

CCSF came out the gates quickly in the first quarter, outscoring the Jaguars 25-13. It appeared that the Rams would cruise to another win, especially against an SJCC team that suited up only seven players for the night.

The next two quarter proved otherwise. The Jaguars outscored the Rams 17-8 in the second quarter followed by 15-15 third quarter. By the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Rams held a narrow 48-45 lead over the Jaguars.

The Rams needed a spark, and they found it in sophomore guard Caprice Taylor. Taylor dominated the fourth quarter with scintillating drives to the basket and step-back jump shots that bewildered SJCC's defenders. Taylor scored 11 of the Rams' 21 fourth quarter points. (Taylor scored 18 of her 21 total points in the second half).

CCSF also got a strong performance from freshman forward Zakiya Willis, who tied Taylor for a team-high 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

The Rams host College of San Mateo (2-1 Coast-North/6-12 Overall) this Friday at 5 p.m.
