The City College of San Francisco women's basketball team opened their season with a 51-37 win over Foothill College on Thursday at CCSF.

The Rams started out the gate slowly by missing easy field-goal attempts and committing ill-advised turnovers. They scored a total of eight points in the first quarter followed by a nine-point second quarter, ending the first half with Foothill leading 25-17.

Foothill's momentum vanished quickly when the second-half started. The Rams picked up the pace by playing frenetic defense and pushing the ball up the court for quick transition points. CCSF outscored Foothill 34-12 in the second half. The Rams' defense was particularly good in the fourth quarter, allowing only four points to Foothill.

The Rams' defense was key to their win over Foothill.  They held Foothill to 14-of-49 shooting and caused 27 turnovers.

Leading the way for the Rams was sophomore point guard Caprice Taylor. She picked up a rare double-double by posting a game high 20 points and 10 steals, and dished out five assists and pulled down four rebounds. Freshman forward Ma'ata Makoni also contributed 10 points and five rebounds.

The Rams will be at Laney College on November 11-12 for a weekend-long tournament.
