Rams claim Coast Conference singles, doubles titles; qualify 5 individuals, 3 doubles for state championships

CUPERTINO – A historic season for the City College of San Franciso continues through the postseason. On Saturday, the Rams closed out the Coast Conference singles and doubles tournament at De Anza College by capturing both titles while qualifying five individuals and three doubles squads for the 3C2A State Championships.

Leading the way was sophomore Kelly Yau Barria. Yau Barria went 4-0 in singles action and defeated teammate Jacqueline Leong in the Coast Conference singles championship. Carolyn Nguyen made it a top-three sweep for the Rams by taking third place.

Yau Barria (No. 1), Leong (No. 2), and Nguyen (No. 3) are the North's top-three seeds for the state championships. They will be joined by Yuchu Huang (No. 7) and Kayla Man (No. 12) in singles action at the state tournament.

In doubles, Yau Barria claimed her second title as she teamed with Leong to go 4-0 on their way to the Coast Conference championship. The duo earned the North's No. 1 seed for the state championships.

Also moving on to the state championships is the doubles team of Nguyen and Huang (No. 3) as well as Man and Isabella Li (No. 4).

The Rams have a huge weekend of state championship action ahead. On Thursday (May 9), CCSF will take on host Pasadena City College in the 3C2A State Team Championship final at 3p.m. That is followed by the 3C2A Singles and Doubles State Championships on Friday-Saturday (May 10-11), also at PCC.

CCSF heads into the final team match against Pasadena with both teams having identical perfect records of 12-0.
