Rams dominant in 20-1 season-opening win at De Anza

CUPERTINO – The City College of San Francisco women's badminton team got the 2024 season off to an impressive start. On Thursday, the Rams defeated two-time defending state champion De Anza College by a final score of 20-1.

CCSF's lone loss of the match came in an early-round singles match. CCSF outscored De Anza 5-1 in the first round, then swept the three second-round matches. The Rams continued by sweeping and six matches in the third round and took both matches of the final doubles round.

Sophomores Carolyn Nguyen and Kayla Man are two of five returning players for the Rams this season. The duo had an impressive freshman season for CCSF last season after reaching the state championship semifinals.

Another sophomore, Kelly Yau, played well in Thursday's opener by winning all her matches at No. 1 singles and doubles against De Anza.

The Rams return to action on March 14 when they travel to Ohlone College for a Coast Conference match.
