The no.7 City College of San Francisco men's soccer team (12-3-4) travels to no.2 Hartnell College (16-2-3) this Tuesday for the second round of the CCCAA NorCal Regionals.
The Rams are coming fresh off a 3-2 playoff win over De Anza College last Saturday. The Rams dominated the Dons in the first half and in the early minutes of the second half. The Rams were up 3-0 with goals from freshman forward Alejandro Perez (28th min), freshman midfielder Adom Shamrock (47th min), and freshman defender Angel Solis (49th min).
The momentum switched to De Anza's side at the 55th minute when Marco Briseno received a red card. The Rams played a man short for the final 35 minutes, and the Dons looked to capitalize. At the 57th minute, sophomore forward Shiraz Hussain scored to shrink the lead to 3-1. De Anza continued to put the pressure on the Rams' defense, and the continued attacks eventually caused a penalty kick opportunity for the Dons at the 83rd minute, which sophomore forward Sahr Mattia drilled past CCSF sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Bailey.
Although De Anza cut the lead to 3-2 and continued to attack a Rams team that was short one player on the field, CCSF held off the surging Dons for the final minutes to secure the win.
The Hartnell College Panthers are coming off an overwhelming 7-0, first-round playoff win over Napa Valley. The panthers put the game away early. By the 26th minute of the match, Hartnell had a comfortable 4-0 lead. They eventually closed the half with a 5-0 lead, and tacked on two more goals early in the second half. The Panthers were led by midfielders sophomore midfielder Anthony Hurtado, who scored two goals in the blowout win.
When CCSF and Hartell take the field, it will be a matchup between one of the states best defensive teams in CCSF and offensive teams in Hartnell. The Rams allowed a minuscule 13 goals on the season, fourth best in the state. The Panthers 58 goals scored ranks them number three in the state.
Hartnell and CCSF last played on Nov.7. The Panthers defeated the Rams 2-1.
