The City College of San Francisco Football team opened their season with two straight wins after defeating Sierra College 56-13 on Sept. 1 and Sacramento City 37-29 on Sept. 7
In the season-opener, CCSF dominated Sierra in front of the hometown crowd. The Rams totaled 499 yards of offense and were and efficient 8-of-15 on third-down conversions (53 percent). DeShawn Collins led the offensive onslaught. Collins racked up 115 rushing yards on 14 attempts and three rushing touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 48 yards. Quarterback Jack Newman threw for 246 yards on 17-of-23 attempts and three passing touchdowns. Wide out Frank Hall led the receiving corp with six receptions and two receiving touchdowns.
The Rams defense was just as good as the offense in the blowout win. The Rams held the Wolverines to a minuscule 176 yards of total offense and allowed only three-of-14 third-down conversions (21 percent). Defensive back Tyriq Mack led the Rams in tackles (7) and defensive back Gamon Howard intercepted a pass and blocked an extra-point attempt.
In the matchup against Sacramento City College Panthers, the Rams fell behind 14-0 early in the first quarter. The Rams looked to the duo of Newman and Collins to overcome the deficit. Newman went on an absolute tear, he threw for 371-yards on 26-of-37 attempts, threw for three touchdowns and rushed for one. Collins was an all-purpose beast. He accumulated 77 rushing yards, 75 receiving yards, and two touchdowns (one rush, one pass). Wideout Christian Willis led the team with 8 receptions and 134 yards receiving.
On defense, linebacker Folasaaitu Tofi led the Rams with 9 total tackles, one sack and two tackles for losses. Defensive back Kenyon McTear also pitched in with a key interception that led to a touchdown in the second quarter.
Next up, the Rams host Modesto College this Saturday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m.
