Defending State Champion CCSF Rams Beat Rival Santa Rosa Bear Cubs 34-21

Today the (5-2) City College of San Francisco Rams  beat the (6-1) Santa Rosa Bear Cubs  34-21 at CCSF’’s George Rush Stadium. 

The win ended Santa Rosa’s undefeated streak at six games and put the Rams in a first-place tie with the College of San Mateo in the National Bay 6 Conference.

The Rams totaled 425 yards of total offense against a Bear Cubs defense ranked fifth in the state in yards allowed per game (253.2 yards).  Quarterback Lavell McCullers led the way on offense by throwing for 343 passing yards and three touchdown passes on 17-for-30 attempts. McCullers also ran for 42 yards with one rushing touchdown. Wideout Easop Winston hauled in six catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He has caught at least one touchdown reception in every game this year. Wideout Jaylend Jones scored the game’s final points with a 59-yard touchdown reception in the waning seconds of the third quarter.

The Rams defense allowed only 322 yards of total offense. Defensive back Josh Searle intercepted two of Santa Rosa Quarterback Mitch Hood’s passes. Defensive back Michael Lawson and Vince Camp also added to the interception total with one apiece. The defensive play of the game occurred in the third quarter when defensive tackle Maka Tameilau returned a fumble recovery for a 25-yard touchdown. 

"This is a great team win. We played excellent in all three phases of the game and made big plays when we needed to. We are excited that we are playing great team football when we need to the most," Head Coach Jimmy Collins said. 

The Rams’ next game will be on the road next Saturday, Oct. 29 against rival College of San Mateo.
