The City College of San Franciscofootball team overcame four lost fumbles on Saturday to win its final home game of the season.

The Rams were outscored 16-7 in the fourth quarter but held on to beat De Anza, 38-37, after it failed on a two-point conversion with a little more than two minutes remaining.

“We are fortunate to escape with the win and look forward to a chance to play for a playoff spot next Saturday,” head coach Jimmy Collins said after the game.

CCSF, which has been plagued by inconsistent play all season, made several mistakes in the contest as penalties and turnovers regularly halted otherwise promising drives. The Rams committed 17 penalties for 139 yards.

But CCSF also significantly outgained its opponent, creating 605 yards of total offense compared to De Anza’s 401.

Quarterback Lavell McCullers paced the Rams’ offense, rushing for 164 yards and two touchdowns on 18 attempts. He threw for another 235 yards and a score.

Running back Namane Modise averaged 8.1 yards per carry, racking up 173 yards.

CCSF (6-3 overall) still has a path to the playoffs despite having a few losses. The simplest route requires Butte to lose its latest game and the Rams to win their regular season finale at Contra Costa next weekend. If Butte wins, it’s still possible the reigning national champions could make the postseason as a wild card, but the odds are longer.
