The City College of San Francisco baseball team (1-2 overall) defeated visiting Laney College Eagles on Tuesday 9-6 to capture their first win of the season.

The win is also win number one for new Interim Head Men's Baseball Coach Mario Mendoza.

Rams' starting pitcher Jacob Wiechmann led the way for the Rams. He pitched six innings and held the Eagles to two runs (one earned) and allowed only seven hits and issued one walk.

The strong pitching performance allowed the Rams to build an early lead. CCSF scored a run in the second inning and two runs in the fourth inning. The first two Rams' baserunners scored on wild pitches and the third scored on a bases-loaded walk.

The Laney Eagles answered back in the top of the fifth inning by scoring two runs, but the Rams continued to take advantage of Laney's errant pitching. In the bottom of the fifth inning, CCSF scored two more runs off wild pitches and scored another run off a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning to push their lead to a comfortable 6-3.

The Rams tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh when catcher Bobby Chu's RBI Double scored Joe Jordan and right fielder Brian Krueger's sacrifice fly to center field scored Johnathan Vazquez.

"I'm really proud of the guys in finding a way to beat a good Laney team. It was a great team win. "Everybody had a part in the win. This win will always be special because it's my first," Mendoza said.

"All the hard work we have done from the players and coaching staff makes it satisfying. We have a long way to go but we are on the right track. I really think if we stay healthy this year we can surprise a lot of people."

The Rams travel to Monterey on February 1st for a 1 p.m. game.
