Cross-Country Team Sends Seven Runners to State Championship

City College of San Francisco will be well-represented at tomorrow’s CCCAA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country State Championship at Woodward Park in Fresno, as seven runners from this year’s Rams team, six men and one women, will compete for a state title.

Women’s Cross Country Head Coach Nicholas Torres, who’s in his first year at the helm, said the team’s success this year was due to their depth and mentality.

“We really proved (this year) that we had depth and a good, quality team and it showed throughout the season, conference play, and especially at NorCal (Championships) where a lot of our athletes stepped up.

“We kind of had that underdog mentality. We were able to hang in there with the best teams and we showed what we had,” Torres said.

The qualifiers from the men’s team are Anwar Alghaithy, Victor Bautista, Gerardo Castro, Ben Cho, Daniel Grey, and Jose Hernandez. Jane Stephens will represent the women’s team.
